ReverseGet offered a great service for users who wanted to investigate on their competitors. They could give you list of sites who are competing among themselves just by entering the name of any one of the site. You could also get complete analytics of the site, whois information and if you have the adsense, chitika or any other ad publisher's id, you could get a complete list of the domains using the same pub-id. And all this was for FREE.

However this morning when I checked their page( I keep close look on my competitors website so I visit them daily) they have discontinued the service. I was shocked to see it so I sent a mail to the id displayed on the page. So this is how they replied back

We are decided to close the Reverse Get as the services of this type cannot exist in accordance with the Data Protection laws of the European Union.The laws of the majority of the EU states are practically the same. They prohibit acquiring and analyzing personal data without preliminary agreement of their bearer.For example, Google Analytics ID will be personal data as per the Data Protection law.
As far as I know, the US laws are much better in this regard allowing such services like spokeo or intelius. However we are under the EU jurisdiction and cannot risk like that. Any violation of the Data Protection laws can lead to penalties.
P.S. Since 2012 the EU has been negotiating regarding the cancellation of the obligatory permission for personal data processing as this is an obstacle in the way of innovation projects. However no one knows how much time will elapse from the negotiations till the adoption of the new law.
